What Enrichment Means
School enrichment extends the core curriculum, broadening pupils’ knowledge, skills and cultural understanding while developing confidence, oracy, cultural capital and a sense of belonging through diverse experiences within and beyond the local community.
Our Catholic faith underpins all that we do. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus, we promote Gospel values of love, compassion, service, respect and inclusion, nurturing the whole child and encouraging pupils to celebrate their gifts, care for others and contribute positively to the wider world
Enrichment Within Our Community
At St Augustine’s, we foster a strong sense of community and belonging, rooted in our Catholic mission and shared values. Our house system, pupil leadership opportunities through the Chaplaincy Team and School Council, and opportunities for pupil voice encourage responsibility, teamwork, service and active participation. Community events, including our Reading Cafés and Christmas and Summer Fairs, strengthen partnerships with families and the wider community.
Our after-school clubs, including Musical Theatre, Art, Table Tennis, Spy Club and LEGO, allow pupils to develop interests, discover talents and build new skills. Our weekly Enrichment Afternoon offers experiences such as French games, Drama, Boccia, Country Dancing and Forest School. Pupils can also learn a musical instrument and participate in the school band.
Performances at Christmas, Easter and our Year 6 Shakespeare production celebrate important occasions, showcase pupils’ talents and bring families together. These experiences also provide opportunities to celebrate our faith, share in significant moments of the liturgical year and strengthen our sense of community.
Enrichment Beyond Our Community
Our enrichment programme extends beyond the school gates through local sports competitions, music events and visits to residential homes, where pupils share special occasions and tea dances with residents. Christmas gift-giving further develops pupils’ understanding of kindness, generosity, dignity and service to others, reflecting our commitment to living out Gospel values.
Educational visits and residential experiences, including PGL trips for Years 5 and 6, visits to the Tower of London, museums, the seaside and the local pantomime, bring learning to life and broaden pupils’ horizons.
Through these experiences, pupils develop confidence, independence, resilience, teamwork and cultural awareness. They learn to appreciate diversity, recognise the dignity of every person and understand their role in serving others. Enrichment enables pupils to connect classroom learning with the wider world, discover new possibilities and develop a lasting sense of belonging within their school and community.
